Satblast Applications and Case Studies
The SatBlast System is a wet blasting system which is ideal for dustless blasting of all surfaces including stone, brick and steel. Typical applications and Case studies are shown below.
Typical applications
The Satblast System is suitable for use on: -
- Concrete - at low pressure for cleaning and washing away corrosive salts and/or in Concrete Repair at Higher Pressures for exposing aggregate, removing surface coatings and removing rust from Rebar.
- Stone – at Low Pressure for Gentle Cleaning and Graffiti removal.
- Brick – at Low Pressure for Gentle Cleaning or removal of Masonry Paint.
- Timber – at Low Pressure for stripping paint from hard woods.
- Fibreglass – At Low Pressure for paint and coating removal.
- Steel – At High Pressure for dust free cleaning of rust and paint from structures such as ships, bridges, tanks, girders etc.
Production rates
Production rates will vary with each application - i.e. the type of substrate to be cleaned and whether any coating is to be removed etc. and also with the following factors:- Air Pressure, Air Volume, Nozzle Size, Abrasive Type and Flow Rate.
The ability to vary these factors to suit any application ensures that the Satblast is a totally versatile and universally successful system.
On steel production rates of up to 30 m2 per hour to SA 2½ can be achieved.
Ease of operation
Set up time takes only a few minutes, requiring only connection of Air Supply Hose, Blast Hose and two Remote Lines for the Deadman’s Handle as would be required for a standard blast pot.
The unit is fully portable and suitable for one-man operation using a compressed air supply of 170cfm for low pressure operation or 265cfm for higher pressure operation.
Operator training courses are also available. Please see our Training Section.
Case study 1
TASK - To Remove Heavy Industrial Grime From Brickwork
PRODUCTION RATE - 25 square meters cleaned in 26 minutes
ABRASIVE CONSUMPTION - On this occasion only 50 kg of silica free sand type abrasive was used. (Whilst this coverage was particularly good, abrasive consumption is generally 2-3 times lower than with open blasting).
LOCATION - Main thoroughfare
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS - No sheeting up, No road closure required. No disturbance to surrounds.
Case study 2
TASK - To remove graffiti from the Menai Bridge, gateway to Anglesey in North Wales. Special remit was to remove the paint without removing the lichen growth and general grime from the wall behind, to avoid the necessity of cleaning the whole structure. Operations were carried out at some distance below the road and the Satblast System working at 15 p.s.i successfully completed the removal of just the painted lettering utilizing 40 meters of Blast Hose from the unit to the nozzle.
Case study 3
TASK - To remove paint and rubberized coating from occupied, multistory, concrete construction blocks of flats.
THE PROBLEM - Tests carried out with dry blast cleaning systems proved unsuccessful as the rubberized coatings softened and bubbled up becoming impossible to blast off.
THE SOLUTION - The small amount of water used by the Satblast System kept the coatings cool, thereby preventing this softening and bubbling and enabling the media to successfully remove the coatings. Each block was successfully cleaned using just two units, one working from ground level and one from the roof.
Case study 4
TASK - to clean coatings from brick walls in the confined area of cells within a working prison.
Using the Satblast System dust was suppressed, operations were carried out quickly without loss of operator visibility and the surface was prepared to the required specification for subsequent re-coating.
Case study 5
TASK – to clean steelwork offshore and provide a key for re-coating.
As an alternative to Ultra High Pressure Water Cleaning the Satblast successfully provides the required key without contaminating this sensitive area with dust.
Case study 6
TASK – to clean vessels in the dry docks of working shipyards.
Using the Satblast, dry airborne dust emissions are eliminated and spent, wet abrasive is localized for disposal.
The SatBlast Dust Free Blasting System is available exclusively from The Surface Finishing Equipment Group - Abraclean in the Northwest and Hogg Blasting and Finishing Equipment in the Northeast UK.
