What is J Blast Abrasive?

J Blast Shotblasting abrasive was introduced in the 1960′s and is designed to provide grit blasting contractors and industry with a safe alternative to sand. J-Blast has been the industry standard for quality and reliability for over 50 years.

In its most popular Iron Silicate form, J Blast is commonly known as Copper Slag. It is also available in Aluminium Silicate form for certain applications and known as Coal Slag.

J Blast is manufactured from processed mineral slags which have less than 0.1% free silica, meeting the requirements of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations.

Grades of J Blast Abrasive Blasting Media

  • J Blast Supa -  Grain size - 0.2 -1.5 mm - Gives high cleaning rate and etch.
  • J Blast Standard - Grain size - 1.4 -2.5 mm - Provides a coarse etch or anchor pattern.
  • J Blast Supa Fine - Grain size - 0.2 -0.7 mm - Provides a fine finish with a low profile.

Example Applications of J Blast Abrasive Blasting Media

  • J Blast Supa - Cleaning of most general steel fabrications, ship’s hulls, tank internals, and pipes
  • J Blast Standard - Ideal for cleaning heavily corroded steel, marine growth, heavy coatings, cement buildup and prior to metal spray.
  • J Blast Supa Fine - modern low build paints, selective coating removal, and motor body repairs. 

Advantages of J Blast Abrasive

  • Hard - 6 and 7 on the Mohs scale, it bites into rust, millscale and the toughest coatings.
  • Sharp - angular grains give a large number of cutting edges for rapid removal.
  • Dense - with a large density JBlast generates high energy at the work surface giving fast cleaning rates.
